The iteration game

Hello! And happy cold, frosty Sunday :)

I got something done on the boat almost every day this week, which felt great; I only have ~4 months to go! But jeez I'm making this bathroom complicated — it's a slow iteration, in the "stop every 30 minutes to figure out what's next" stage.

To start with, the gap on the starboard side was too big for these tile-backer boards, so I channelled some insulation to put in 3 extra battens before boarding it up:

Satisfying. Wedi boards are super light and quite flexible, but reassuringly hard to break by hand.

And a similar story with the port-side window battens:

Vertically the boards can handle 113kg/m² of load, but the upper walls are at a 15° angle, only reducing that to ~109kg/m² and *waves hands* some shear stress along the incline. The tiles will come to around ~25kg/m², which fits squarely within my vibes-based tolerance.

I then did under the gunwales, and finished boarding the top ~half/third:

This is where the dependencies become fun, as I can't finish the boarding until the flooring is done, which I can't do until the electrics and plumbing is done.

I'm also adding a fixed mirror, which I need now to position support studs before I tile over them, and I spent painfully long looking for one — fancy LED and anti-fog ones! — only to find the perfect design for £45 from Next... also ordered: an oak kitchen worktop for the shelving under the window, LED profiles for waterproof cove lighting, and a bunch of plumbing and electrical extras.

And before I could board up the bedroom lighting, I needed to figure out why it was finicky in turning on... my math error was immediately obvious: a 100W switch overpowered by a 150W LED driver.

Next up, wiring everything together in a tidy, water-tight cupboard.

Until next Sunday!
