The illusion of straightness
Hello!
It's reached that point of the year where I'm having cold showers to warm up; the difference between days with and without sunlight is huge. On the plus side they're excellent practice in surrendering to the present. The cold present...
Anyway, you know when you really cannot be fucked? Yeah... I buried my head in the sand this week and indulged in lots of programming, although I did go sleepless for ~32 hours after getting back on Tuesday from the States. They (BA) luckily assigned me the best seat coming out of JFK, back window on the right side for a wonderful view of the NYC skyline at dusk.
So I had to get some special jigsaw blades for the worktop, for thick hardwood with 2-directional teeth to prevent splintering. But even that didn't stop me from making a mess of the sink cut-out. From a distance it looks fine, but I have a lot of post-production sanding to do...

I'll make sure it has the illusion of a straight cut, even if it's not. Personally I've been working on that, people seem to think I have gay hips.
I then flipped it over to route a groove for lighting (I'm putting LED strips along the edges), and also the holes for bolting the sink-side and breakfast bar together (not in the photo):

I think this way of joining worktops is standard (the bolts seem to be at least), and probably stronger than biscuit joining.
Also my bathroom lights stopped working on Wednesday, I figured maybe the switch had gone or the transformer broke? Idk. Brushing my teeth by candlelight was cute for a minute, but I "fixed" them this evening. By fixed I mean took the wires out, measured some voltages, and put them back in... and they worked? Probably a loose connection...

On the plus side they were easy to access! My brother's wise words of maintainability ringing in my ears once more. And it was satisfying to flip the breaker switch and kill the lights, knowing that works; a little touch of joy.
This feels like one of the more depressing posts, but in a whimsical way? I hope my self-inflicted suffering is amusing to you.
Until next Sunday! :D
