Famous last words

Hello! Happy Sunday, and end of 2025.

So I'm not getting a wind turbine, it wouldn't do shit; wind speeds around here are consistently meh. I'd need a mahoosive one, far bigger than I could put up — power scales with the area it sweeps (the square of the blade radius), and the cube of the wind speed, so low wind with small blades is useless. Occasionally it blows a gale, but I want a reliable base load.

Anyway this time last year I wrote "There will be no more years,” which was obviously wrong but look at the photos! I had only just started plumbing the bathroom, and finished panelling the bedroom. So in the spirit of reflection, here's a list of what I did on the boat this year:

The bedroom, with a shaped trapezoidal mattress...

The bathroom with over 1000 tiles, adding the shower, the sink and a composting toilet...

The living room floor and panelling, with the hearth and stove that I restored...

Underfloor heating pipes beneath it all...

And the kitchen, minus some gas appliances...

I also painted the boat orange, and put in 10 new double glazed windows...

And wired up the electrical system, with 6 solar panels and a 48V battery powering the mains 230V, and a few electronics in the bathroom at 12V...

I also learned to ring church bells, and found a sik gig to track electricity prices around the world and use them to control devices based on the price (see priicer.com, and send bug reports my way).

This time when I say "there's not much left," I might actually mean it:

  • Connect the gas system for the kitchen
  • Install a boiler & calorifier
  • Finish the little bit of panelling and flooring in the stern
  • Redo the deck and make another weed hatch (I'll pay a welder to do this)
  • Rewire the engine
  • Paint and fit skirting boards
  • Buy furniture?!

Details.

Happy New Year! :)
